Charley Chase

Charley Chase has seldom been recognized for his importance behind the scenes in film comedy. He is the person most responsible for what has become known as the Hal Roach style of comedy – incorporating the best of Sennett-style slapstick with strong stories, characterization, and wit. By making comedies more humane, Chase increased the depth of the humor without sacrificing laughs. He forever shaped the evolution of film comedy.
